Remote Interpreting

An interpreter sits in an interpreting booth in a PCS interpreting hub and, during simultaneous interpreting, looks at a large monitor on which a speaker connected via video conference can be seen.

We offer remote interpreting nationwide. This is the digital (and also professional alternative) solution for an implementation of international conferences.

By way of explanation, up to now the conference room was usually equipped with interpreting booths from which interpreters interpreted into the various languages. In the current times, video conferences are held as a substitute. These often need to be interpreted as well. The interpreters use our interpreting technology at our locations (i.e. they do not have to travel to a conference venue), and we then broadcast (stream) all languages into the video conference. Your foreign participants can therefore continue to follow the conference in comfort (and of course also contribute in the respective foreign language).

For this purpose, we have set up several so-called interpreting studios in all PCS branches (Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf); the interpreters come to our hubs and interpret simultaneously for your conferences from here.

Our hubs deliver professional audio and video streams with the ability to simultaneously transmit up to 32 interpreting voice channels. We enable worldwide communication for international participants. Important meetings and sessions can also take place in the current situation without language barriers.

This is all standard at PCS

For individual solutions with more participants, languages or other requirements, please contact us. We will find a solution.

How does remote interpreting work for my conference at PCS?

We start a virtual conference in which all participants can dial in via laptop, computer or mobile device. This conference is of course password-protected and only visible to you and your participants. You can then participate in the conference via software on the device and will be interpreted by the interpreters. Our technicians and coordinators (moderators) take care of the smooth running of the entire event.

You can define active and passive participants for your meeting. Passive participants are the purely listening audience, active participants can additionally ask questions or give speeches.

All participants speak in their native language and can choose which language channel they want to listen to. The conference is transmitted to our interpreting studios and simultaneously interpreted here by the interpreters.

How does the remote hub at PCS work for me as an interpreter:in?

Interpreter HUB PCS

If you are an interpreter:in, you can work from one of our interpreting studios in Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf. You will find a highly professional workplace with industry-standard and ISO-compliant interpreting technology in front of – as you are used to from PCS – addition, of course, also according to all hygienic specifications and with maintenance of the necessary physical distance.

We offer high quality audio and video transmission with very good quality and low latency. Our hubs have the ability to simultaneously transmit up to 32 languages. During the conferences, a technician is always present with visual contact to the interpreters, who can immediately help with questions and technical problems. In addition, a coordinator (moderator) from us takes care of the smooth running of the conference and can provide assistance to the participants at any time.

It is also possible to take advantage of optional catering at all of our locations.

Where does PCS offer interpretation studios?

We have installed permanent remote hubs in our branches in Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf – sometimes several per branch. In addition, there is always the possibility of setting up temporary interpreting hubs nationwide. We can also set up these workstations directly at your company, ministry or other event location. Temporary or mobile hubs are flexible and can be installed within a short time.

Our web servers are located in Germany

PCS operates its own web servers located in Germany for Remote Simultaneous Interpreting and all digital events, conferences and meetings. We process your data in a DSGVO-compliant manner and strictly according to the strict German data protection law.

Interpreting from the home office?

From a technical point of view, we currently advise you as an interpreter:in not to work from home. The responsibility for the appropriate bandwidth of the Internet connection and the transmission from your home office (reliability, redundancy) is then your responsibility. As well as the compliance with data protection issues and liability! Of course, also the protection against acoustic peaks that could damage your hearing.

It is also important for the interpreters to be able to communicate with each other and with the technicians; this would not be possible from home, or would be very difficult.

Managing a multilingual conference is a complex operation that we believe is best organized by professional technicians.
In our hubs you can concentrate on the main thing: interpreting. We take care of the rest.

Different names for Remote Interpreting

There are different names for remote interpreting: remote interpreting (RI), remote interpreting, video interpreting, remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI) and more. Don't let this confuse you. What is important is what you want to implement at your event. Should simultaneous or consecutive (i.e., delayed) interpreting be used. How many languages should be interpreted into?

FAQs: Remote Interpreting and Interpreting Studios

You interpret in our hubs – as usual from the interpreting booth – with our professional interpreting technology. Our technician supervises the event with eye contact and is available all the time as your personal contact.

We achieve very good audio quality with low latencies. Both experienced interpreters and customers have confirmed this in numerous conferences. We are technically oriented towards the (almost finished) ISO PAS 24019 to Remote Interpreting.

During the events, a technician with eye contact to the interpreters is always on site in our interpreting studios. PCS coordinators also ensure that the technical side of the conference runs smoothly.

We currently offer permanent studios in Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf, sometimes several per location. However, we can install our temporary solutions at all suitable locations nationwide.

All videoconferences and remote interpreting sessions we host are DSGVO compliant (General Data Protection Regulation) and run exclusively on European servers.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us or our data protection officer: datenschutz@konferenztechnik.de

Currently, we do not recommend this, as we conduct rehearsals and test calls prior to the event to ensure your event runs smoothly. You should definitely plan for this.
With our current solution, up to 10,000 people can participate in a conference (webinar). We also continue to offer a stream each with the original sound of the conference or the individual interpretation channels for an unlimited number of participants (password protected).
.

Up to 300 active participants can be selected per conference. Active participants are, for example, speakers, moderators, or all participants with the right to speak at the conference. Passive participants can only listen and watch. Up to 10,000 participants can participate via chat functions, no interaction is provided for a stream of more participants.

Our systems are designed up to 32 languages/channels. If you need more languages, please contact us, we have solutions for that as well.
.

The working conditions in our hubs are highly professional and are based both on the applicable ISO standards for remote interpreting (ISO 24019) and on the framework conditions for the work of simultaneous interpreters in these interpreting studios required by the largest associations of interpreters (such as AIIC and VKD in the BDÜ). These include, among other things, the interpreting technology used, the sound insulation and acoustics of the speaker booths and rooms, the quality of the audio and video signals, the possibility for the interpreters to communicate with each other, or the stability of the bandwidth of the Internet line.
.

As with interpretation in fixed booths, different ISO standards apply to remote interpreting. These should be observed as guidelines for the provision of hubs. This is the only way to ensure professional work and a successful event or conference to everyone's satisfaction. You can find more information on ISO standards in our lexicon.
