On July 13, 2017, the DIN Academy invites to Berlin to the conference Interpreting technology through the ages<\/em>. The program is very up-to-date and, in our opinion, has a lot to offer. The central topics of the conference are the standards for interpreting technology, interpreting booths and the audio quality of the conference technology used in interpreting. Knowledge of the standards is indispensable for event managers, conference technicians, planning offices and all professions involved in interpreting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Some of our highlights from the program:<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

First of all, the two standards ISO 2603 on stationary\/fixed interpreter booths and ISO 4043 on transportable\/mobile interpreter booths are dealt with. These were badly outdated and have now undergone a complete overhaul. To reflect the changes in the marketplace since the ISO standards were last published in 1998, a task force was created by the interpreting community at the international level. The group formed under the heading ISO\/TC 37\/SC 5\/WG 3 (\"Facilities and equipment for interpretation services\").<\/p>

Next, the newly launched ISO 20108 \u2013 Simultaneous Interpretation \u2013 Audio Video Transmission Quality standard is presented. This standard defines the basic parameters for the quality of audio and video input signals for simultaneous interpretation and, for the first time, also includes requirements for simultaneous interpretation in settings where interpreter, audience and speaker are not all present in the same room (Distance Interpreting\/Remote Interpreting).<\/p>

Another topic is of particular interest to us as a rental company and installer of conference and interpreting equipment: ISO 20109 \u2013 Simultaneous Interpretation \u2013 Equipment Requirements. This standard makes specifications for the technology used in interpreting booths and interpreting equipment. It is already being taken into account by the first conference equipment manufacturers (Televic, Taiden, Shure, Bosch) when developing new systems. This will certainly interest architects and planners who are responsible for fixed installations of conference technology. However, the rental companies of conference technology will then also be measured against this standard.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Klaus Ziegler<\/em> \u2013 Freelance conference interpreter and coordinator for technology and health at AIIC, the international governing body for conference interpreters.<\/p>

Maghuerita Lely<\/em> \u2013 Conference Interpreter and also \"Head Technical Compliance\" for the Interpreting Section at the European Commission in Brussels.<\/p>

Dr. Mag. Eva-Maria Leitner<\/em> \u2013 conference interpreter and since 2000 has been actively involved in the development of national (Austrian Standards Institute) and international standards (CEN and ISO) on the subject of interpreting and has also been actively involved here in the modernization of the above-mentioned standards.<\/p>

Dirk Neumann<\/em> is one of the managing directors of PCS GmbH. PCS is actively involved in the modification as well as creation of the aforementioned standards from a technical point of view. PCS acted as a mouthpiece for the distributors and sellers of conference equipment worldwide.<\/p>

Petra Kuhn<\/em> is Head of Language Services at ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Achim Keller is in charge of standards management there. ZF is a leading German technology group worldwide in driveline and chassis technology. Both Ms. Kuhn and Mr. Keller are involved in standards and norms in various DIN committees.<\/p>
