Preparation materials for the interpreters
Knowledge is power. Although freelance interpreters usually specialize in some topics and subject areas, they still work in many different fields. The following documents therefore belong to the familiarization with a topic in the run-up to a conference: speakers' manuscripts or preliminary abstracts of these, minutes of previous meetings, company brochures, agendas, programs, lists of participants, company terminology lists, etc.
The speaker's manuscripts naturally come first, because the (for interpreters) pleasant rhetorical form of free speech actually only exists in discussions. In these cases, people speak at a natural "human" speed, the sentence structure is immediately recognizable, because there is no time for long elaborate formulation.
By the way, interpreters are obliged to treat confidentially all information that comes to their "ears" in the course of any assignment.
