Relay

At conferences or even at EU level, many language combinations can occur simultaneously. For cost reasons and recruitment problems, it is therefore becoming more and more common for the Simultaneous interpreting the strict principle "all interpreters must speak each language of the speakers at least passively (see C language) master" to be replaced by a system with "cabine pivot".

The interpreters in the "German booth" then in turn translate from English into German.

So in this case "English" would be the agreed relay language that all interpreters can always fall back on to avoid a Babylon. In contrast to the "silent mail" known to all of us, no information is lost here, if in the Interpreter booths first-class and aware of their responsibility forces sit.
