ISO 2603 – Fixed interpreting booths
This standard provides requirements and recommendations for the construction and renovation of permanent interpreting booths (or rooms used for simultaneous interpreting) in both new and existing buildings. This document also ensures the usability and accessibility of booths for all interpreters, including appropriate accessibility.
The standard was recently amended and is available on the market as ISO 2603:2016 in December 2016 in a revised version and can be obtained from ISO and DIN, among others. The same applies to the very similar standard ISO 4043, where the focus is on transportable, movable interpreting booths.
ISO 2603:2016 is applicable to all types of permanent, fixed booths with built-in or mobile technology. Therefore, it is also in close context with the standards ISO 20108 on "Interpreting Technique" and ISO 20109 on "Transmission quality of audio and video signals in interpreting".
Among other things, ISO 2603:2017 is also regarded as a compulsory reading and assistance for architects/interior architects and technical planning offices that are to design and plan conference rooms and conference centers/hotels/trade fairs with interpreting booths. The ISO can be ordered for example from Beuth Publishing House be obtained.
