New trends in the huddle room

sennheiser TeamConnect in the Huddle Room

Published: 21.11.2016

After being celebrated as a trend for a long time, huddle rooms have now successfully established themselves and are part of the basic equipment in the conference areas of many companies. Manufacturers of conference and media technology offer a wide range of products and solutions that are precisely adapted to the requirements of huddle rooms. We can see from our customers that the demand for huddle rooms and the associated technology is very high.

What was a huddle room again?

At this point, we would like to summarize in general terms what we at PCS mean by a huddle room: Huddle rooms are small meeting rooms for up to six people. The center of the room is a table around which everyone can comfortably group. The room can be used spontaneously and without prior booking. Depending on requirements, the room is then equipped with conference and media technology. The technology used must be immediately available, operable without prior knowledge and, if possible, usable wirelessly. Team-oriented, spontaneous, flexible, uncomplicated, BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device), that's a good way to describe huddle rooms.

What technique can we recommend?

There is a wide range of suitable media technology to choose from. The trend is for every user of the huddle room to be able to use their own end device for presenting and interacting. This means that whether you bring a laptop, smartphone or tablet, you can easily connect to the media technology in the huddle room. Often, all that is needed is the installation of an app and content from the smartphone can be presented directly on a display or via a projector. And this is independent of the manufacturer. Here, solutions such as i3sync from i3-learning or ClickShare from Barco. But systems like Google Chromecast or Apple AirPlay are also conceivable options. It is always worthwhile to think outside the box here. This also applies to us when planning our sales and installation projects.

Shure Microflex Advance Microphone Arrays

In the field of microphone technology, developments towards slim and flexible systems are also clearly visible. Systems can be used for amplification in the room itself, but also for recording, video conferencing or Skype business like Facetime calls. Two systems that come to mind here are the new Shure Microflex Series or the TeamConnect system from the Sennheiser company. Both are ultra-flexible conference systems that can be easily adapted to the desired conditions in the conference room. Microphone arrays ensure good speech intelligibility, and the combination with a dome camera makes the systems easy to use for video calls.

So the list here could be continued at will. But we are interested in your experiences with huddle rooms. Do you actively use them yourself? What's great, what could be improved? Is there exciting technology that we should take a closer look at or add to our sales catalog? Are you planning to set up a huddle room and need help?
